--Gertie Barnes-- Gertie Barnes, 99, of Sturgeon, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1985, at Pin Oaks Manor in Mexico. Services were held Friday, Dec. 6, at Fenton Funeral Chapel, Sturgeon, with burial in Mt. Horeb Cemetery, Sturgeon. The Rev. Weldon Forman of Thompson officiated.

She was born Aug. 23, 1886, in Boone County, a daughter of William and Mary Brakebill Kanatzar. She was married in Columbia on Jan. 2, 1917, to Samuel Earl Barnes, who preceded her in death on July 5, 1960. Survivors include two sons, Henry Earl Barnes of Mexico and William Ralph Barnes of Hallsville; a daughter, Imogene Meyers of Sturgeon; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. she was preceded in death by three brothers, George Kanatzar, Otis Kanatzar and Willie Kanatzar; six sisters, Laura Greeno, Mertie Kanatzar (her twin sister), Emma Myers, Elizabeth Rutter, Stella Greeno and Alice Palmer. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Barnes, Tim Barnes, Richard Pollock, David Watkins, Terry Maassen, Fred Minor and J.B. Kaufman.
