Byrd H. Perry, Jr., 65, of 101 Old River Road, Salt Lick, KY, passed away suddenly Friday April 22, 2011 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born November 8, 1945, he was the son on the late Byrd Perry, Sr. and the late Hazel Fanning Perry. He was a retired employee of the Department For Human Resources Bureau For Manpower Services and former member and former chairman of the TENCO Workforce Development Board. He was a graduate of Morehead State University and was a noted civic and community leader. He was Bath County's "Citizen Of The Year" in 1990, founded and organized the Salt Lick Homecoming Festival along with Brad Frizzell, he was the former mayor of Salt Lick, helped organize and implement the Salt Lick municipal sewer project and had received the Commissioner's Eagle Award in 1993 for his work accomplishments, he was a Morehead State University Athletic Booster and was currently involved with the Salt Lick/Frontier Housing project. In earlier years he was the lead singer in the locally well known band "Arms Of Affection". Survivors include his wife, Christie Ankrom Perry, 2 daughters, Leslie Perry Collins and her husband Daniel of Mays Lick, KY and their daughter and his only grandchild Elizabeth Ruth Collins and Allison Kathleen Perry of Lexington, KY, 1 brother, Harold Perry of Salt Lick, sister in law, Betty Perry of Winchester and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Perry in 2004. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday April 26 at 10:00 AM at Lakeview Community Church with Rev. James Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Polksville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday April 25 at Lakeview Community Church. Pallbearers will be Brad Frizzell, Rick Omohundro, Bill Unchester, Phil Tackett, Wayne Johnson, Mike McKenzie, Gene Carswell and Danny Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be James Cochran, Sam Sallee, Bruce Ray, Ron Hatfield and Carl Ankrom. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. Powell Funeral Home of Salt Lick will be caring for arrangements.
