Donald E. Penrod, 83, passed away at 1:16 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Marion General Hospital. He was born in Marion, Indiana on July 14, 1930, to the late Everett H. and Mabel E. (Ham) Penrod. Mr. Penrod was a life resident of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School. He married Margaret E. Gunby on December 18, 1954. She survives in their Marion home. Donald served his country in the U. S. Army as a master Sgt. During the Korean War. He retired from Dana Corporation in 1989. Donald owned and operated P & P Auctioneers. He was a member of the Samaritan Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and VFW and for 36 years served the residents of Marion as a city councilman of the 5th Ward and also an At-large councilman. Survivors include wife, Margaret E. Penrod; son, Christopher C. (Mickey) Penrod, Lafayette; daughter, Laura L. Penrod, Marion; sister, Nila (Jerry) Whitton, Marion; 2 grandchildren, Liz Penrod and James Lautzenheiser; 3 step-grandchildren, Krista Milazzo, Amanda (Anthony) Deardorf and Mario Milazzo; 2 great grandchildren, Caroline Deardorf and Anthony Deardorf, Jr.; 2 nephews, Eric and Travis Whitton The Penrod family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November13, 2013 in the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana. Masonic Rite will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2013 in the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel with Rev. Bob Van Cise officiating. Mr. Penrod will be buried immediately following his funeral services in the Estates of Serenity Cemetery with military honors.
