Oil Springs resident, Espa McCarty, 80, died Thursday, January 13. Mr. McCarty was born March 7, 1913, in Johnson County, the son of the late William and Caroline Clark McCarty. He was retired from Big Sandy RECC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oma McCarty in 1984. Surviving are three sons, Ray of Oil Springs, Fred of Nippa and Robert of Lexington; one daughter, Etta Lafferty of Oil Springs; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16 at Low Gap United Baptist Church, with Elders Danny Williams, Frankie Williams, Sam Reed and Melvin Wright officiating. Burial was in the McCarty Family Cemetery at Oil Springs, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
