In Memory of James Taylor Poynter Jr. January 11, 1924 - September 28, 2013 Obituary James T. "Junie" Poynter, Jr., 89, of Maysville died Saturday, September, 28, 2013 at the Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville. Mr. Poynter retired as the Assistant Vice President of Distrubution of EPT-Browning Manufacturing. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served in the US Navy in the V-12 Unit during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Aviation Machinist's Mate Third Class. Mr. Poynter was born in Maysville, Kentucky on January 11, 1924 the son of the late James Taylor Poynter and Helen Cassidy Poynter. Junie loved the game of baseball and in his day was a great center fielder and could throw a mean knuckle ball. He was also an avid golfer and could be found many days playing or watching a round at Maysville Country Club. He was a lifelong member of Maysville Country Club and was instrumental in the re-design and construction of the back nine holes. He put many, many hours of hard work into it and he considered this one of his greatest accomplishments. Junie also loved yard work and it would be a challenge to find a yard that was better kept or more beautifully landscaped with flowers than his was. He and Patty loved to travel whether it be to visit family, attend activities for his grandchildren, spending winters in Florida or to Keeneland for the day. Junie loved his family and he was the biggest cheerleader for his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to say how proud he was or to offer words of encouragement. Family and friends will miss him dearly but are thankful for the legacy he has left behind. He is survived by his wife, Patty Carpenter Poynter; two sons, Steve Poynter (Libby) of Marietta, Georgia and Tim Poynter (Terry) of Fort Collins, Colorado; four grandchildren, Heather Dugan, Matthew Poynter, Courtney Moline and Erin Harrison; six great grandchildren and one brother, Clyde Poynter of Louisville, KY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Poynter and two brothers, Harry Poynter and Billy Poynter. Memorial services for James T. "Junie" Poynter will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 with Rev. Eric Patterson and Rev. James Rawlings officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials may be made to the Tom Browning's Boys and Girls Club, 241 E.
